雨をまとう浴衣 KIMONO WEARING THE RAIN

古来から日本人は、
微妙に異なる表情を見分け、
雨に様々な名前をつけてきました。

現代のテクノロジーを駆使することで、
日本人の繊細な感覚を浴衣の模様として定着できないだろうか？
そんな発想から「雨をまとう浴衣」は生まれました。

霧のように細かく広がる「霧雨」。
竹のように細く鋭い「篠突く雨」。
群れとなって一気に降る「村雨」。

デザインした模様をアクリル板にレーザーで刻み込み、
できた溝に手作業で一粒ずつ水滴を垂らして撮影。
一粒一粒すべてが異なる輝きを放つことで、
かつてない繊細な雨の模様が完成しました。

From ancient times
The people of Japan had different names for the many faces of rain.

By applying current technology
could we not visualize these ancient sensibilities of Japan?
Could we not apply patterns of this to kimono?
This is “KIMONO WEARING THE RAIN” comes from.

“Kirisame” is rain that is so fine that it spreads like a fog.
“Shinotsukuame” is rain that pours down strong like bamboo, piercing the ground.
“Murasame” is rain that stops and starts in clusters, replenishing the ground as it passes over.

Designed patterns are carved out by laser onto acrylic boards.
Water droplets are applied one by one to the patterns, and photographed.
Each water droplet shines a different kind of light and shimmer.
A never-before-seen set of patterns emerged into the world.
