Traditional Japanese wooden kokeshi artisan at Mount Takao

Artisan Kuninobu Okura (72) has been carving these traditional Japanese kokeshi dolls for around 35 years now. You can find him most days on Mount Takao near Tokyo where he displays his carvings and sells them to visitors to the mountain shrine. He is one of the few people still and was happy to explain to us his craft which dates back to Edo Japan. Each doll takes around 4 minutes to carve and he sells painted and plain versions. These make popular gifts for mountain pilgrims. (Video by Rodrigo Reyes Marin/NipponNews.net)
